The Barracuda Mk I has been the world leader in motorcycle engine buggies for 12 years. In 2017 the Mk II Barracuda was released, bringing several upgrades, updates and design tweaks.
Many of the Mk I parts are compatible with the Mk II Barracuda. Where a Mk I component has been superseded by a new version, this has been noted. The Mk I parts list only contains those parts which are not compatible with the Mk II Barracuda and are available for existing Barracuda Mk I owners or build projects in progress.
The primary component differences are listed below:
Rear Suspension
The Mk I Barracuda was equipped with PIRCV rear suspension. The Mk II Barracuda now features the CV2 rear suspension.
Front Suspension Uprights
The Mk II Barracuda uprights have revised geometry with more height and steeper kingpin inclination. This brings the Barracuda suspension in line with the X2 buggy with common parts. The Mk II uprights also feature XVS brake calipers and 207mm rotors - these brakes were available as an upgrade for the Mk I Barracuda but are now standard for the Mk II. The Mk I's original CAL032 brakes cannot be fitted to the Mk II.
Front Upper Suspension Arms
The Mk I one-piece welded arms have been replaced with two-piece "knife-and-fork" arms which allow easier caster adjustment. The arms are also slightly shorter to suit the revised upright geometry.

The Barracuda Mk II - The Best Just Got Better
Barracuda Mk II steps up the game once again...
The Barracuda is without a doubt the most popular and successful motorcycle engined buggy in the world. Over the last 12 years of success Edge Products have been listening to customer feedback as well as developing in-house upgrades and tweaks. These improvements have been rolled together to give the Barracuda Mk II. The core performance and driveability of the Barracuda are as strong as ever, while strength and reliability have been taken to new heights.
What's New?
The Barracuda Mk II's biggest changes are the rear suspension unit and the front upper arms and uprights. The Barracuda’s original PIRCV rear suspension has been overhauled into the tougher CV2 unit, originally developed for the X2 buggy with tougher arms and driveline and more brake options. The CV2 reverse also integrates electric reverse.
The Barracuda’s front upper suspension arms have been replaced with a two-piece design which is easier to fabricate and provides more adjustability. These work in conjunction with taller uprights which run twin-piston XVS calipers and larger brake rotors. The Barracuda front suspension is now fully interchangeable with the X2 buggy.
On the chassis side, the Barracuda Mk II introduces a fabricated hip frame for ease of construction, several structural improvements and an aluminium high-capacity fuel tank.
A whole new level...
The Barracuda has taken the Mini buggy concept to a whole new level of technical advancement & sophistication. More than 25 years of Mini buggy design, development & thousands of buggies manufactured has resulted in the Barracuda, a lean & aggressive long travel buggy that you can build yourself.
Combining the best design features...
The Barracuda combines the best design features from past Edge buggies into one high-performance package. Aggressive styling, the latest CV rear suspension technology & classic Edge toughness are all drawn from our stable of past vehicles.
Super long suspension travel...
An all new Double A arm front suspension design features rod end camber & castor adjustment & super long suspension travel at 500mm (20”).
Taller than average? No problem...
More internal room to suit drivers up to 6’ 7” tall, (2.0m) more elbow room & a rollcage structure designed with the aid of computer stress analysis has resulted in a tough chassis to absorb the harshest offroad conditions.
Easy & Comprehensive Plans
The Barracuda plans is a comprehensive 230 pages derived from our latest CAD models for ultimate accuracy and clarity. They can be purchased in a printed book or in digital form ready for immediate download (and at a discounted price).
These detail every chassis & suspension part that needs to be made along with parts lists, nuts & bolts lists & material lists. Laid out in 3D views with 2D dimensioned detailed drawings the Barracuda plans detail the complete chassis, front & rear suspension, brakes, pedals, all brackets, fuel tank, floor pan, roof plate, nose plate, bonnet, bulkhead plate, engine bash plate, complete steering including rack mount & steering column & gearshift setup. In fact, every single part that needs to be made.
The Barracuda plans explain the chassis construction in a "step by step" format starting with the base frame & building the chassis from the ground up to make construction easier for the home builder. Suspension arms & components are broken down into their individual parts for ease of manufacture.

What does it cost to build?
Buying the raw materials, fabricating and welding the Barracuda parts yourself to the plans will cost approximately $7,500 to $10,000 Australian dollars minus motor depending on how much of the componentry you produce yourself.Suitable Engine Types
Any large capacity engine can be used as long as it is of a chain drive design (chain drive from engine to rear wheel).
Engines from 600cc right up to the latest Kawasaki ZX14R or Suzuki Hayabusa can be used depending on the level of performance required.
Vee twin engines such as the Suzuki TL1000 or Aprilia RSV1000 are very suited to sand dune type driving as they offer lots of low rpm torque.
Big capacity muscle bikes such as the Suzuki GSX1300 Hayabusa & Kawasaki’s ZX14 are great engines for raw horsepower that give good torque, power, speed & acceleration.
